On March 30, 2004 , Phase I of the Kerrville South Wastewater Project was dedicated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony put on by the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Kerrville South Wastewater Project is a joint, cooperative sewer project involving Kerr County , the City of Kerrville , Riverhill Country Club, the State of Texas , and UGRA.  Each of these entities is contributing to the success of the Project.

o       Kerr County - Obtained $1,500,000 in grants to build the sewer system

o       The City of Kerrville - Treats wastewater; Provides customer service

o       Riverhill Country Club - Contributed an easement allowing the  construction of a bypass resulting in substantial cost savings

o       State of Texas Office of Rural Community Affairs – Provided grants

o       UGRA - Contributed $170,000 in matching funds to obtain the grants; Owns system

The environmentally beneficial project will replace aging septic systems in a densely populated area where poor soils and shallow groundwater have lead to septic malfunctions.  Septic contamination has been detected in area springs and seeps and the area feeds Camp Meeting Creek, which has been listed as not meeting clean water criteria by the Environmental Protection Agency.  Over time, the Project is expected to have a measurable positive impact on water quality.
