Volunteer River
Clean-Up Day August 14
Kerrville, TX, July 30, 2004 – The
Upper Guadalupe River Authority has set Saturday, August 14th for
a volunteer River Clean-Up Day.
Efforts will focus on Ingram Lake and City Lake.
Registration will commence at 8:00 am, and it is expected that the clean up will be concluded by 11:00 am. Volunteers
will gather at the Ingram Boat Ramp and in Guadalupe Park, in Kerrville. Directions
can be obtained from UGRA (896-5445) or at www.ugra.org.
Groups
and individuals are invited to participate in the River Clean-Up. Anyone interested in taking part need only
show up on August 14th. The
Alamo Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America has selected the River
Clean-Up to be a part of its “Good Turn for America” program. The
Good Turn for America Program is a national call to service by the Boy Scouts
designed to improve young people, local communities and the nation. Scouts from throughout the area will be participating
in the River Clean-Up. Some of the
Scouts will be using canoes from the Bear Creek Scout Camp. UGRA General Manager, Greg Etter, stated,
“We are very pleased to be working with the Boy Scouts, the nation’s leading
collaborative organization in community service, on the River Clean-up Day.” Other groups that will be participating
include the Hill Country Fly Fishers, the Hill Country Paddlers and the
Master Naturalists. As part of its “Keep
Texas Beautiful” program, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is
providing supplies to aid in the Clean-Up.
