UGRA Elects Officers; Appoints Guadalupe-Blanco
River Trust Trustee
Kerrville, TX, December 15, 2004 – The Board
of Directors of the Upper Guadalupe River Authority today unanimously elected
new Officers. Ronnie J. Pace was elected
President and A.L. “Curg” Starkey was elected Vice President. Mollie Maresh and Jaime Quintanilla, MD
were respectively elected Secretary-Treasurer and Assistant
Secretary-Treasurer. Calvin Weinheimer, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, said, “This is
a strong Officer group dedicated to stewardship of the Upper Guadalupe River.”
President
Pace stated, “I am honored to have the opportunity to serve, and will look
out for the best interest of the people of Kerr County.” Pace also
thanked outgoing President, Janet F. Robinson, saying, “I want to express the
thanks of the Board and the community to Janet Robinson. Under her
leadership, UGRA became a much more efficient and responsive organization and
numerous positive programs to protect and preserve the Guadalupe were put in
place.” Mr. Pace is a businessman and
investor with a successful history in dry cleaning/laundry, insurance, real
estate, and manufacturing/construction in the petro-chemical industry. He was a charter appointee to the Plateau
Water Planning Group of the Texas Water Development Board’s Regional Water
Planning Initiative, and currently serves as the Group’s Secretary. He is past Vice-Chairman of the Kerrville Planning and Zoning Committee, and has served on the Kerrville Economic Investment Corporation, the Kerrville Airport Advisory Board, and the Kerrville Economic Development Foundation. Mr.
Pace, a native Texan, is active in numerous civic organizations, including Kerrville Noon Rotary. He has
served on the UGRA Board since 2002, most recently as Vice President and
Chairman of the Finance and Operations Committee.
Mr.
Starkey is currently involved in the management of commercial real estate as President
of The Six S Family Ltd. Partnership.
He was previously engaged in the home building and real estate sales
businesses. Mr. Starkey is a Kerr County native with a long history of community activities. He served on the State Board of Plumbing
Examiners, City of Kerrville’s Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee, is a
graduate of Leadership Kerr County and is a member of the Tivy Athletic Booster Club
and the Rotary Club of Kerrville. Mr.
Starkey has served on the UGRA Board since 2002 and is currently Chairman of
the Human Resources Committee.
Secretary-Treasurer
Maresh is a Partner of Texas Star Builders, which specializes in building and
restoring homes in the Hill Country.
She is past President of the Texas Hill Country Builders’ Association
and a former board member of the National Wildflower Research Society and the
University of Texas, Austin College of Education.
Mrs. Maresh is also a member of First Methodist Church, where she has served on the administrative
board. She lives on the South Fork of
the Guadalupe and has served on the UGRA Board since 1999.
Dr.
Quintanilla is a Psychiatric Physician. He is a member of the Texas
Medical Association, a distinguished life fellow of the American Psychiatric
Association and a life fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr.
Quintanilla is a founding member and past President of the Texas Society of
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He received a Bachelor's degree and
Medical degree from the University of Nuevo Leon in Monterey, Mexico. He joined
the Board in 2004 and currently serves on the Human Resources Committee.
The
UGRA Board today also appointed Mr. Curg Starkey to serve on the Board of the Guadalupe-Blanco River
Trust. The Trust promotes and
encourages the conservation, stewardship and enjoyment of the land and water
resources of the Guadalupe River watershed.
Mr. Starkey said, “I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to serve
on the Trust’s Board. The Trust is
dedicated to conserving the Guadalupe watershed through the voluntary actions
of private property owners, and has a great future in Kerr County.” The
appointment of Mr. Starkey was made in accordance with a recently executed
understanding that gives UGRA the right to appoint one Trustee on an annual
basis. The Trust’s Board consists of eight
persons, with two being appointed by the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority and
one now being appointed by the Upper Guadalupe River Authority. Information about the Trust can be found at
