UGRA Initiates Reservoir Monitoring;
Expands Cypress Restoration
Kerrville, TX, January
26, 2005 – The
Upper Guadalupe River Authority today approved the initiation of a regular
program to test the water quality in Flat Rock Lake, Ingram Lake and UGRA Lake.
Ronnie J. Pace, UGRA President, said
“Understanding and tracking the quality of water in these impoundments is
important to the health of the reservoirs and the watercourse.” The sampling program will take place twice
a year and focus on nitrates, phosphorus, sulfate, chloride, chlorophyll, E.
coli, turbidity and total and volatile suspended solids. UGRA also announced the expansion of its
successful Cypress Restoration Initiative.
The Initiative is reintroducing native cypress trees in deforested
riparian areas. According to UGRA Manager Scott
Loveland, “Cypress are a key part of the natural riparian zone and have large
positive impacts on bank stabilization and water quality.”
In other business:
- Directors Walter Schellhase and Curg
Starkey were respectively named to
chair the Finance and Operations and Human Resources Committees; and
- The UGRA Board approved the audited financial
statement for the past year.
It was also noted that
UGRA’s General
Manager has resigned in order to return to the mining industry. President Pace said, “UGRA made substantial
progress during the time that Mr. Etter was here. We will continue our focus on efficiency
and stewardship of the Guadalupe.”
