River Clean Up

The 18th Annual River Clean Up will be held from July – October 2021 as an On Your Own cleanup like we did in 2020.  We will not hold a one-day event this year. See details below to sign up today!

2021 River Clean Up Overview

Conduct a cleanup on your own or in a small group from July 1st to October 31st.  You may register for more than one cleanup day.  UGRA, with the support of many community partners, will provide cleanup supplies and coordinate trash disposal.  Volunteers will receive an Annual River Clean Up t-shirt, other freebies, and an entry in the prize drawing.  Please review all steps below and familiarize yourself with the questions in the REPORTING FORM before your cleanup.

Step 1: Pick your cleanup site

Cleanup sites can be anywhere in Kerr County including streets, roadways, ditches, dry creek beds, and waterways.  When it rains, trash from any of these locations has the potential to wash into the creeks and river.  Identify an area you think could use a cleanup or use THIS MAP to view sites suggested by UGRA.  Click on a site to view the details and directions.  Note: the Google Map does not display well on an iPhone or iPad.  We suggest using a computer to view the map.

Step 2: Register for your River Clean Up

Complete the REGISTRATION FORM.   Each participant needs to register individually.  After you submit the form, you will have the option to submit another response.  Please register at least 24 hours before you plan to pick up your supplies so that we can have your correct t-shirt size(s) ready.

Step 3: Pick up your supplies

Stop by UGRA on any Thursday or Friday 8 AM – 5 PM from July 1st until October 29th.  You will receive cleanup supplies (trash bags, trash grabber, gloves, vest), t-shirt, and other goodies.  See map at bottom of this page for our location.

Step 4: Conduct your River Clean Up

Cleanups can be conducted anytime that is convenient for you between July 1st to October 31st.

Step 5: Drop off your trash and supplies

If you collect a small amount of trash, consider disposing of it with your household trash.  If that is not an option, take your trash to one of the following locations (these locations are also included in the MAP)

  • UGRA parking lot dumpster - please use this dumpster if possible.  If you have a large item that won't fit in a dumpster, leave it in the UGRA parking lot next to the dumpster. Please do not leave large items at any of the other locations.
  • Hill Country Youth Events Center - approval pending
  • More will be added soon

All supplies should be left in the bin on the sidewalk along the UGRA building on the parking lot side.

Step 6: Report your River Clean Up

Complete the REPORTING FORM.

We will need your feedback on the amount and type of trash you collected.  You will also have a chance to enter items into the Most Unusual Item found contest.  You must take a picture of the item and email it to Tara (tbushnoe@ugra.org) in order for it to be considered in the contest.  Also, please email Tara any pictures from your cleanup that you would like to share – we want to see you in action!  One person from your group can complete the reporting form for all members.  You will not receive an entry in the prize drawing unless you or your group leader completes the form.  There are over 35 prizes in the drawing!

Step 7: Stay Tuned!

UGRA will announce the winners of the Most Unusual Item contest and the prize drawing in November 2021.
